Internet services provider IIJ operates some of the largest network and server infrastructure in Japan. Here, we report on Internet trends over the past year based on information obtained through the operation of this infrastructure. In particular, we analyze changes in trends from the perspective of BGP routes, DNS query analysis, IPv6, and mobile.
In June 2022, IIJ began offering a new network service called IIJ Private Backbone Service/Smart HUB (the "SHB service"), which provides flexible high-capacity connections with cloud services. We built and released a new backbone network, which we (internally) call VX (Virtualization eXchange), to provide the network infrastructure for the SHB service. This article gives an overview of this new VX backbone network and the background to its creation, and details, from various angles, how it differs from previous backbone networks.
Solutions for utilizing data have evolved rapidly in recent years, making it easier than ever to efficiently manage large amounts of data and perform advanced analysis, but the problem with implementing solutions on a system-by-system basis is that it scatters the necessary cost outlays as well as the management and analytical expertise. To address these issues, we built a common platform that makes it possible to implement data management and analysis easily and at a low cost—namely, the illumino data analytics platform. This article describes illumino’s features, the issues it has so far resolved, and how this was achieved.
