NKSJ Holdings and IIJ Conclude Letter of Intent for Joint Business

TOKYO-November 18, 2013-NKSJ Holdings, Inc. and Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) today announced the conclusion of a letter of intent to embark on joint business for building cloud-based system infrastructure and developing of cutting-edge services.

NKSJ Group company, Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. ("Sompo Japan") and IIJ have jointly pursued building a cloud-based infrastructure for Sompo Japan's internal shared systems platform, ensuring business continuity and standardizing security level for Sompo Japan group companies to date. The IT environment is rapidly changing to accommodate the increasing business need for high-speed, high-volume data processing, as represented in the idea of "big data." Seeing this market situation, the two companies have decided to begin planning about new service business that would use advanced technology, next-generation architecture and joint operations of cloud infrastructure in implementing scalability by applying the systems thus far developed to include the entire NKSJ Group.

The two companies have future intention of developing their joint businesses with the aim of providing a standardized version of their cloud infrastructure and expanding their global business.
