TOKYO-February 16, 2015-Net Chart Japan Inc. ("Net Chart"), a LAN network construction company and 100% owned subsidiary of Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774)—one of Japan’s leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers-today announced the release of "medi-patch" antibacterial LAN cables and twisted pair cables (shielded) for use in the Medical Industry, with partner Fuji Electric Cable Co., LTD. ("Fuji Electric Cable"), a manufacturer and seller of fire-resistant cables, communications cables, LAN cables, optical fiber cables, and devices and processed goods. The cables will launch on March 1, 2015. These cables will be the first antibacterial LAN cables to be released commercially in the world.
Net Chart and Fuji Electric Cable had previously released the light-weight, eco-friendly LAN cable - eco-patch - in 2008. The eco-patch cables have roughly half the diameter of conventional cables and offer superior workability when cabling. As of December 2014, more than 790,000 cables have been shipped to a variety of customers, mainly data center operators. The new medi-patch cables offer the same small diameter and light weight as eco-patch, but have been developed for the medical industry and offer superior antibacterial properties. The companies will also begin selling antibacterial twisted-pair cables for use in construction that are both antibacterial and offer shielding to reduce interference from noise.
The use of IT continues to advance in the medical industry, such as external storage for rapidly increasing medical image data, and the construction of network environments for remote treatment and regional collaboration.
Net Chart and Fuji Electric Cable are committed to spreading the use of antibacterial LAN cables that maintain physical safety within medical institutions and to promoting the use of IT solutions in the medical industry—such as building hospital networks and medical information system platforms that utilize the cloud computing service.
