IIJ to Start Offering New SA-W2 Service Adaptor Compatible with the Network Management Service SACM

TOKYO-March 8, 2016-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it will begin offering the new SA-W2 service adaptor device on March 30, 2016. The SA-W2 is joining the lineup of products compatible with IIJ's OEM-provided network management service for service providers, Service Adaptor Control Manager (SACM).

SACM is a management system platform based on IIJ's patented SMFv2 (*1) technology. The platform allows communications devices (service adaptors) to automatically connect to networks and enables customers to conduct remote, centralized management. In this service, VPN, WLAN, and other functions are called "recipes." The recipes that customers require are provided to service adaptors from the cloud. IIJ has adopted a business model in which the service adaptors themselves are available for free and customers are charged monthly fees based on the recipes they use.

IIJ's new offering, the SA-W2, provides enhancements to functions such as Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability and 5GHz WLAN support (capable of being used with 2.4GHz simultaneously). In addition, the performance of the unit has been doubled, and it works overseas (*2). The unit thus enables customers to centrally manage networks, including those at overseas locations. Because the recipes are stored in the cloud, SA-W2 units will automatically acquire the same recipes as any existing equipment simply by physically replacing the devices. This makes switching to the new unit a breeze.

In June 2016, IIJ plans also to offer the SA-W2 as a service adaptor compatible with the IIJ Omnibus Service, which virtualizes network functions and provides them via the cloud.

IIJ will continue to provide high-quality solutions utilizing its proprietary advanced networking technologies.
