Providing a Cloud-Based, Interprofessional Collaborative System for Community-based Integrated Care in Cooperation with Local Healthcare Practitioners
March 1, 2017
TOKYO-March 1, 2017-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it has developed its "IIJ Electronic contact/communication Note Service"-a collaboration platform that allows various professionals involved in home-based care to share information-as a part of its business development in the healthcare field. It will launch on April 1, 2017.
The service is a cloud-based version of the Electronic @Contact Book-an information-sharing tool developed by Nagoya University Hospital's Center for Advanced Medicine and Clinical Research, and commercialized through joint research between IIJ and the Center. IIJ will market the service as a communication platform that connects local medical practitioners and provides for community-based integrated care systems by targeting organizations across Japan, such as local municipalities, medical associations, and medical corporations.
Looking toward 2025, when members of the baby-boom generation will be 75 years of age and older-becoming latter-stage elderly-the Japanese government is promoting the construction of community-based integrated care systems that can provide residential, medical, nursing, preventative, and livelihood support, so that the elderly can maintain a lifestyle that suits them in a familiar community, even if they need serious primary nursing care. In light of this situation, the industry needs an interprofessional collaborative system in which the various professionals that support home-based medical care can share information with each other.
IIJ provides the Electronic @Contact Book-with a proven track record of installations, mainly in the Tokai region-as a new service on its cloud platform, with a high level of security that conforms to the various guidelines related to handling medical information. It aids smooth, team-based care by providing a shared platform on which all the parties involved in home-based care-the frail elderly as well as her/his family caregivers, doctors, nurses, care assistants, and pharmacists-can exchange information safely and swiftly.
The service has the following primary features
The local professionals can swiftly check on the detailed progress of their patients and evaluate that progress from their own specialized perspectives, without having to visit those patients.
Because physicians, nurses, and other concerned parties can share the details of their treatments and medication counseling, they are able to plan for optimal nursing care approaches before visiting their patients' homes.
Because the system is built on a highly secure platform that conforms to guidelines related to medical information and allows system logins using digital certificates, users are able to safely share medical information.
