Google Cloud Platform™ Partnership Ensures Low-Latency Interconnection between IIJ and Google™
May 28, 2019
TOKYO-May 28, 2019-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the launch of the IIJ Cloud Exchange Service for GCP Partner Interconnect. This service uses closed networks to connect user sites with Google's cloud service, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), via IIJ's dedicated private network.
With this service, users can connect to GCP's gateways from their corporate networks using IIJ's secure closed environments, without passing through the Internet. The IIJ Cloud Exchange Service has been offering closed connection between user sites and IIJ GIO Infrastructure P2 (IaaS), Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). With the addition of GCP, users can now flexibly choose the optimal cloud services according to their features, using a safe and seamless network environment.
By entering into an agreement with Google, IIJ has directly interconnected IIJ and Google's both Tokyo and Osaka regions, offering a safe and secure one-stop service from user networks to the GCP. IIJ aims to broaden its range of expandable and agile multiple cloud services, with the goal of implementing this IIJ Cloud Exchange Service at 200 companies over the next three years.
By linking the user-dedicated networks on the IIJ Private Backbone Service, a cloud-based network service with GCP's private interconnection service, Google Cloud Partner Interconnect(*), users will experience secure, low-latency connections between their on-premises networks and the Google Cloud Platform.
The IIJ Cloud Exchange Service is compatible with closed connections to Microsoft Azure, AWS, and other cloud services, so users can choose suitable cloud services to create a package of various applications, including AI and big data analytics platforms, application platforms, or high-volume data storage. Additionally, users can connect to their subscribed WAN services.
The connection between IIJ's network and the GCP allows for different routes that produce fault tolerance and a redundant multicarrier structure thus ensuring a stable connection to the GCP. In response to user demand, IIJ also supports east-west redundancy as part of a DR strategy, as well as automatic switching during faults.
Moreover, IIJ has nine access points connecting user sites to IIJ's network across Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south, allowing low-cost connections to the nearest access point. IIJ also offers its Internet connection service at a fixed monthly cost to ensure communications bandwidth that is compatible with multicarrier connections.
