IIJ Signs MoU with Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Indonesian Partners Including the National Research and Innovation Agency, for R&D Cooperation in the IoT Field Centering on Transportation

Will jointly carry out IoT data analysis and algorithm development

TOKYO - February 5, 2024 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the signing of an MoU (memorandum of understanding) on February 1, 2024 with Japanese and Indonesian partners, for research and technology development aimed at advancing science and technology in the IoT field in Indonesia. The partners to the agreement are Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Japan, and in Indonesia, OREI-BRIN(*1) (the Research Organization for Electronics and Informatics (OREI) under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)) and PT Agrisinar Global Indonesia (AGI), an IT firm operating a traffic counting service in Indonesia. Under the agreement, the partners will carry out joint research and development related to IoT mainly in such fields as transportation and map information, including analysis of data obtained from IoT devices and development of algorithms.

Starting last year, IIJ has been working with Murata Manufacturing on data service platform development and provision to Japanese companies planning IoT data business in Indonesia and other Southeast Asia countries, and on supporting IoT data business launching in those countries.(*2) Based on the newly signed agreement, IIJ will leverage its know-how in data analysis and business models, gained from providing the above services, to provide assistance in Indonesia in such areas as data analysis methods and application development in the transportation and map information fields. IIJ plans to provide locally the IIJ Group’s robust and secure cloud infrastructure and network fully compliant with Southeast Asian data protection laws and regulations, and its subsidiary Net Chart Japan Inc. will provide support for installation of IoT devices as well.

Going forward, Murata Manufacturing , OREI-BRIN, AGI and IIJ intends to deepen research and development ties with each of the partners, and to contribute toward the development and wide application of IoT-related technologies in Indonesia, including in fields other than transportation.
