On-site surveys of overseas offices to eliminate the “black box” nature of IT environments and mitigate risk
February 26, 2025
Internet Initiative Japan Inc.
TOKYO - February 26, 2025 - Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it will begin offering the “IIJ Global Onsite Survey Solution,” which surveys IT environments at a company’s overseas locations and evaluates security risks, on April 1, 2025.
Under this solution, IIJ engineers well-versed in overseas affairs visit clients’ overseas sites in order to visualize the security risks faced by these overseas sites and even propose optimal security measures, by conducting on-site surveys and gaining an accurate assessment of the IT environment.
Security incidents in corporate networks have increased dramatically in recent years, with many cyberattacks targeting the overseas sites of companies with global operations, some resulting in serious damage that has affected business continuity. Meanwhile, there are many companies that are aware of the risks to their IT environments in overseas sites, but have been unable to gain a sufficient understanding of the circumstances or conduct sufficient analyses due to a lack of human resources or issues with cost—for instance, a lack of dedicated IT staff at overseas sites, or a lack of awareness about the current situation due to it being handled by local staff. Gaining an understanding of the circumstances within the “black box” that IT environments at overseas sites have become, is also an urgent issue for companies from the perspective of compliance.
IIJ will thus offer the “IIJ Global Onsite Survey Solution” in which engineers from the IIJ Group, including from overseas, will utilize the knowledge they have cultivated over many years to survey the IT environment across the entire client company, including their overseas sites, and assess security risks. They will then propose risk mitigation measures and optimal security measures based on the results of the survey, in order to support proper security operations.
Engineers from IIJ, the IIJ Group, or its overseas subsidiaries visit the client’s local sites, and conduct on-site surveys to understand the circumstances. This makes it possible to understand the circumstances of the IT environment in areas where it had been difficult for the client to do so independently.
The surveys are conducted in coordination not only with IIJ engineers that are well-versed in overseas affairs, but also with engineers from overseas subsidiaries and overseas partner companies, with an understanding of the language, customs, regulations, and business environment of each country. This makes for more accurate surveys.
Engineers engage in a comprehensive evaluation of security risks through a detailed survey of the on-site IT environment, including the configuration of the network at each site and the operation and maintenance of network equipment and work computers, as well as a survey of security policies and the current risk management circumstances, in order to offer highly effective improvement proposals. There is also an add-on that involves the preparation of an analysis report by a security specialist.
